The Light Seer’s 10 of Swords card has been replaced by the above imagery.
I am truly sorry that the art I created caused pain.
I am not okay with this.
I have written this apology a hundred different ways in the last few weeks, each and every time I find myself stuck in the weeds. How can I share my artistic vision, without speaking about my intention, and thus potentially gaslighting the young woman who was initially offended by my art?
How can I share what I was doing with my art, without centering my voice?
I have tried… and failed…. repeatedly. And the answer is, I cannot.
And so… this apology has taken me far too long to craft as I worked on figuring that out.
I will speak about this 10 of Swords moment someday… about how we missed a beautiful opportunity to center the voices of the black women in our tarot community, and how we missed the opportunity to have their perspectives really heard. All of them… really heard.
I have never been here before, as a creator, and while it is uncomfortable and difficult to feel misunderstood, it is also a huge opportunity for me to grow and learn. And so I have decided to take this 10 of Swords moment and learn from this, and in doing so, a more formal apology must be made.
I am truly sorry that the art I created caused pain. I am not okay with this.
Action was taken immediately.
I have re-created artwork for the 10 of Swords card because I am not okay with any of the work that I put into the world causing harm, in any way, to anyone.
Future editions of my deck will not contain the original 10 of Swords, and I have purchased single replacements cards for all of the decks that are currently in existence. These will be sent out to owners of the original editions, and I am currently figuring out the logistics of this.
Thank you to those of you who saw what I was trying to do here. You were the voice of love for me this week. Thank you for your compassion and your grace.
I will be forever grateful to those of you who reached out to share your stories. Your questions. Your perspectives. And to those of you who questioned my art, I am grateful to you. Thank you for mitigating any harm that would have been caused by something I created. Thank you, and again, I am sorry.
Sending you so much love,
